Marion High School was invited by the Dean of the UCA Art Department to attend the 2026 Annual Mid-South Sculpture Alliance Confab!
Attendance was made possible through a grant offered to to MHS Art teacher Ms. Elliott and up to five students from the dean of the UCA Art Department, Dr. Bryan Massey. At this event, Ms. Elliott and her students were able to attend art demonstrations, artist talks, and artist panels about several different topics and events happening in the art world concerning all things sculpture.
They also got to visit the Baum Art Gallery. The gallery currently had student artwork on display from the Art and Humanities Department at UCA! It was quite impressive, and our students loved seeing other artwork produced by other students.
This was a huge honor for MHS to attend, considering that MHS was one of only three other schools invited to attend on a grant.

Ever wonder why a plant stays crunchy or turns squishy? Our AP Biology students put cell science to the test using everyday carrots! They weighed fresh carrot sticks and soaked them in cups with different mixtures of sugar water, ranging from plain water to very sweet solutions. After 24 hours in the sugar water, students weighed the carrots again to see how they changed. By measuring the mass of carrots before and after soaking, students saw osmosis in action. Osmosis is a word for how water travels in and out of living cells to create a balance. The mass of the carrots increased because the carrots absorbed water when placed in plain water. But when the water was super sugary, water rushed out of the carrot cells, making them lose weight and turn soft and bendy. Understanding osmosis matters because it explains how living cells absorb water and nutrients to survive, from plant roots taking in rain to our own bodies staying hydrated

The Marion School District is continuing its work to unlock meaningful career opportunities for its students through the development of a new Patient Care Tech program.
The new program, which replaces the old Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program, will give Marion students better clinical opportunities, greater job opportunities, and better pay potential.
A Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a healthcare professional who provides direct hands-on care to patients under the supervision of registered nurses, physicians, and other medical staff. While similar to CNAs, a PCT typically possesses broader clinical training and an expanded scope of practice.
“At the Marion School District, we are committed to creating pathways to high-demand, high-paying careers for our students,” said Jennifer Snyder, Marion’s Director of College, Career & Military Readiness. “The new Patient Care Technician program is a great example of that. It gives our students more hands-on clinical training and prepares them for a wide range of healthcare careers right out of high school. We’re excited to be able to offer that kind of training here at Marion and give our students a strong start in a growing field.”
