Hallway at MST

Marion Math, Science & Technology Magnet has the act of getting to the lunchroom or restroom and back to the classroom down to a science.

During these first few weeks of school, first grade teacher Mrs. Kayla Malcom has worked hard to balance learning, fun, and engagement along with a little bit of rules and procedures.

“It’s a lot of consistency and a lot of hard work, but they are also a great group of kids. They want to impress me, they want to listen, and they want to do the right things. So, they make it easier more so than anything that I’ve done,” commented Malcom.

Students don’t mind the expectations. In fact, one first grader said, “It’s really fun. Each day I learn new things.”

While learning new things and having fun are part of what make up a student’s day, rules and procedures are equally just as important so students can be empowered to be their best.

“We are going to have time to have energetic activities, and then there will be a time when we have to calm down and reset our bodies,” said Malcom.

She could not express enough praise for how well her students are adjusting to the new school year. “They listen well. They work well. They work hard,” said Malcom.

We observed the same excellence throughout the hallways at MST.
